Hendry County Sheriff's SUV flips at Clewiston intersection, 2 injured

CLEWISTON, Fla. (WINK) — A marked Hendry County Sheriff's Office SUV overturned after running a stop sign and colliding with another vehicle.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, the crash happened at 7:55 p.m. on Aug. 8 at the intersection of Montura Avenue and South Hacienda Street. The sheriff's office SUV, a 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe, was traveling east on Montura Avenue with its emergency lights and siren activated when it proceeded past a posted stop sign and entered the intersection.

A 2016 Chevrolet Cruz driven by a 61-year-old Clewiston woman was traveling south on South Hacienda Street, which had no posted stop sign at the intersection. According to the press release, the front of the sheriff's office SUV collided with the side of the Cruz.

After the collision, the sheriff's office SUV traveled off the roadway and overturned. The Cruz rotated, traveled off the roadway and collided with a concrete pillar and fence.

The 24-year-old Clewiston man driving the sheriff's office SUV sustained minor injuries. The woman driving the Cruz sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
