Lightning strike sets trees ablaze in Cape Coral during storm

A powerful storm in Cape Coral brought heavy rain, intense lightning, and a smoky scene as trees along Southwest Second Terrace caught fire after being struck by lightning on Sunday. A neighbor captured video of the burning trees, showing smoke plumes rising into the air. The Cape Coral Fire Department confirmed the trees were struck by lightning. Marla Oyer, a Cape Coral resident, described hearing firefighters rush to the street. "Sirens going off...I mean we heard them all day," Oyer said. Oyer also shared her experience of the storm’s intensity. "Today it was so bad, and it was really loud. I had to cover my ears because they were ringing. It was so loud. Then all of a sudden car alarms were just going off all down the street," she said.
