New Text-to-911 service expands access to emergency help in Hendry County

Hendry County residents who are unable to make a voice call during an emergency can now text 911 for help under a newly launched service aimed at expanding access to emergency assistance. The option is designed to help those who are unable to speak, including those who are deaf, hard of hearing, have a speech disability, or who cannot safely make a voice call. To use Text-to-9-1-1, you have to enter 911 in the "To" field and include the location and nature of the emergency in your message. Hendry County officials said traditional 9-1-1 calls are still preferred whenever possible, as they help dispatchers gather critical information to aid an emergency response more quickly.
