SALINAS, Calif. (WINK) — Taylor Fresh Foods is recalling products containing jalapeño peppers after learning that its supplier, Coast Citrus Distributors, is voluntarily recalling fresh jalapeños due to potential Salmonella contamination.
The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with state and local partners, are investigating illnesses in a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to fresh jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors. A grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, that supplies to Coast Citrus Distributors was identified as the potential source in this outbreak.
The recalled products were distributed to retail distribution centers in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia with a "Best If Used By" date up to and including Aug. 16. Taylor Fresh Foods is no longer sourcing products from this farmer and will be filling orders from alternative suppliers.
The recall includes branded and unbranded products distributed by Taylor Farms to major retailers including Hannaford, Kroger, Target, Trader Joe's, Walmart and Whole Foods.
Products range from diced jalapeños and pico de gallo to prepared items like burritos, sandwiches, dips and salads.
As of Monday, Taylor Fresh Foods said it is not aware of any reported illnesses linked to its jalapeño-containing products.
Consumers who have any recalled product are being advised to discard it immediately and not consume it. Refunds are available at the location of purchase.
