Construction at the Cape Coral Yacht Club has been ongoing for months, and neighbors on Lenox Court say they are experiencing vibrations, loud noises, and even damage to their homes. For Tim DiGennaro, the Yacht Club is a cherished part of Cape Coral's history. "I grew up here at the Yacht Club since the '60s. It was-- it was great being here. Everybody loved it here. It's a neighborhood thing," DiGennaro said. However, he said the first phase of the rebuild has brought significant challenges. "Oh, as soon as they started, as soon as they started the harbor, we can feel the vibration inside the house. The noise was overwhelming. Inside the house, the picture frames are moving. Glass doors are rattling," DiGennaro said. "As soon as they started, and that was inside the harbor. I can't imagine what it's going to happen when they go right here in our backyard." The first phase of the project, currently underway, involves groundwork for a reimagined community park following damage from Hurricane Ian. A construction group was awarded $22.7 million for the project. DiGennaro said he and his wife have been able to feel and hear the work inside their home and are now seeing its effects on their property. "They did photograph everything, and they don't seem to be too concerned about it, which is unfortunate," DiGennaro said. He added that they have been coordinating with the contractor, who installed vibration sensors near their home, but he has not noticed any improvement. "It's going to be a nightmare for us. It has been a nightmare for us. And it's going to-- it's going to get even worse," DiGennaro said. The city of Cape Coral responded with this statement: "Homeowners in the area have received several updates about what to expect before and during construction, and the project's public information officer has stayed in contact with nearby residents throughout the work. "Vibration monitors have been installed around the Yacht Club project site to verify that activity remains below the established FDOT threshold. Additional monitoring equipment was installed at 1114 Lenox Court in response to the homeowner’s concerns. The recorded vibration levels are well below the threshold. If the vibration reaches or exceeds half of the threshold, a notification is sent to the project manager."
