Woman shocked with Taser after alleged knife confrontation with deputy during Port Charlotte chase

A woman accused of confronting a Charlotte County deputy with a knife during a chase in Port Charlotte was arrested Monday after the deputy used a Taser. According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies were investigating a vehicle burglary and grand theft of a car on Kostner Street in Port Charlotte. While investigating, a deputy said he saw the suspect, identified as Olesya Trukhan, 33, running across the street on Ladner Avenue toward Atwater Street. The deputy drove his patrol vehicle to Trukhan and saw her pulling on the driver's side door handle of a Toyota Camry, according to the report. Trukhan then ran through the yard of a nearby home as the deputy got out of his vehicle, telling her to stop, CCSO said. According to the sheriff's office, Trukhan turned around and "squared off" with the deputy with a fixed blade knife in her hand in a fighting stance. The report states that the deputy continued to give her commands to drop the knife and get on the ground before she fled again with the knife in hand. The deputy then shocked Trukhan with a Taser, but she continued to resist after she fell to the ground, according to the report. More deputies came to help and secure Trukhan in handcuffs before she was transported to an area hospital for treatment. According to CCSO, Trukhan stated that she went into work that morning and quit her job before returning home, where she remained before leaving in the evening. The arrest report states that Trukhan believed she was being followed by unidentified people, entered a car to get away, and armed herself with a knife from the car for protection.
