Lanes closed on Edison Bridge for joint maintenance work

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)— Drivers using the Edison Bridge are dealing with a double-lane closure.

The Florida Department of Transportation says crews are working to maintain the bridge joints, with the northbound inside lanes and shoulder currently closed. That closure will eventually shift to the northbound outside lanes and shoulder.

Drivers are being asked to slow down, allow extra travel time and use caution through the work zone. One Fort Myers Beach resident says she had a frightening experience crossing the bridge, saying a metal grate felt like hitting a speed bump and nearly sent her flying off her motorcycle.

"It sent me flying off of my bike, and you know, for somebody who's a fairly new rider like myself, you know, they teach you to you know scan the road for obstacles and, you know, look for obstructions, and you know it looked like it looked flat when I hit it, and when I hit it, it almost sent me flying," Denise Fossesca said.

WINK News has reached out to FDOT about what exactly happened but has not heard back.
