National Hurricane Center tags new area of investigation: Here's What to Know

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA, (WINK) —  As of approximately 6:40pm this evening, National Hurricane Center decided to move forward with designating the tropical disturbance behind our current system as Invest 94L. This means we have two specific spins in the deep tropics of the Atlantic Ocean under close surveillance by the NHC.

For the Weather Authority, this is good news. We'll receive higher-resolution and more pinpointed data to better forecast what the future looks like for both our disturbances.

Right now, we have no worries here in Southwest Florida, let alone the entirety of the United States.

The Caribbean looks to receive some very beneficial rainfall from 92L as it continues westward generally over the next few days. Chances are still high this becomes at least a tropical depression any moment now.

We're confident Invest 94L, our trailing feature, does pick up greater chances as well of further organization as we move towards this weekend.

As of 5 p.m., Tropical Storm Cristobal has formed in the Atlantic. The storm is located well west-southwest of the Azores and about 1,000 miles east of Bermuda. Cristobal has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and is expected to track over the open Atlantic, with no impacts to land anticipated.
