BMW driver accused of going 110 mph in a 45 mph zone in East Naples

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25-year-old Alfredo Specchia in East Naples after he was accused of driving in his black BMW at speeds of up to 110 mph in a 45-mph zone late Monday night. Deputies said Specchia was driving on US-41 near Frederick Street with a loud exhaust when radar showed his speed reportedly climbing to 106 mph and topping out at 110 mph. Nicholas Lichter, a Naples resident, shared his concerns about the dangers of speeding, especially with school back in session. "Coming down Tamiami Trail doing 100 miles an hour. Especially if you have kids. School started yesterday. Yeah, that's pretty dangerous," Lichter said. Deputies said Specchia turned onto Airport-Pulling Road and then Davis Boulevard, and he was accused of continuing to accelerate. "Way too fast," said Philip Johnston, another Naples resident. "Especially on US-41, it's too fast." Specchia was stopped near Heritage Trail and told deputies he was speeding because he had just gotten his car back from his mechanic, according to the report. "Yeah, that doesn't really fly," Lichter said. Deputies also noted that Specchia legally had a Glock 19 handgun on his front waistband at the time of the stop. He was taken to the Naples Jail and has since been released on bond.
