Cape Coral man accused of breaking into vacant home

A Cape Coral man was arrested Sunday night after he was accused of breaking into a vacant home on Northeast 4th Terrace, claiming he was looking for van keys. Marvin Jackson, a longtime resident of the area, described living next to the troubled house as "a living nightmare." "I grew up in Cape Coral, and I would have never imagined anything like this my entire life, and then to have this right next door was a living nightmare," Jackson said. Neighbors, including Jackson, noted that the house had seen significant foot traffic and frequent police activity in the past. "We noticed there was a heavy police presence very quickly, and then we saw someone removed from the house in handcuffs," Jackson said. According to police, Aaron Bevins reportedly broke into the back of the home and was found standing in the middle of the living room when officers arrived. He was accused of attempting to escape through the back door but was apprehended. Bevins told officers he entered the home to look for the keys to a van parked outside, claiming someone had asked him to move it, according to the report. However, when officers spoke with the van's owner, they learned the owner had not asked Bevins to move the vehicle. Additionally, Bevins did not have a valid driver’s license. Jackson, who said he recognized Bevins from previous visits to the house, expressed skepticism about his story. "I suspect they were looking for residual dope in the house. They were using a lot of drugs, so that’s what I would assume," Jackson said. Bevins was arrested and faces a charge of burglary.
