Short-lived Cristobal has been downgraded to a depression as of 5 a.m. It is expected to dissipate later today to the west of the Portuguese Azores in the north-central Atlantic and never make landfall.
AL92 (Central Tropical Atlantic):
A tropical wave sitting roughly halfway between the Lesser Antilles and West Africa has grown better organized over the past day. Conditions look favorable for continued development, and a tropical depression is likely to form within the next day or so as the system tracks west to west-northwest. Based on the latest data, this system will be tracking westward over the next week, through the Caribbean.
Due to strengthening upper-level winds over the Caribbean, the system is not expected to reach hurricane status. Long-range models track it toward Central America. It is not expected to enter the Gulf.
Chance of formation: 80% (48 hours) / 80% (7 days)
AL94 (Eastern Tropical Atlantic):
A few hundred miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands, a disorganized tropical wave is producing showers and thunderstorms. Development odds are lower for now, but a tropical depression could still form later this week or over the weekend as the wave moves west/west-northwest.
There is plenty of time to watch this system, as it moves west-northwest over the next 7-days. Chance of formation: 30% (48 hours) / 50% (7 days).
The next names on the list are Dolly followed by Edouard.
