FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)—A former battalion chief at Estero Fire and Rescue has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading no contest to charges including grand theft, aggravated stalking and domestic violence battery.
Albert Shane Sibert was adjudicated guilty on Aug. 13, according to the State Attorney's Office. He also faces 10 years of probation following his prison term.
Siebert served as both a battalion chief at Estero Fire and Rescue and program manager for Southwest Florida Urban Search and Rescue. In that role, he used credit cards to make personal purchases, prosecutors said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigated the case and discovered Siebert used the credit cards to buy tracking devices and cameras. He then used those items to stalk his ex-wife, according to the State Attorney's Office.
"When the case was investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, they discovered he used the credit cards to make purchases such as tracking devices and cameras and then utilized those items for stalking his ex-wife," the State Attorney's Office said.
FDLE also uncovered non-consensual audio and video recordings of Siebert's ex-wife. During the investigation, FDLE discovered an incident of domestic violence as well.
Siebert was ordered to pay $47,103 in restitution to Urban Search and Rescue, which he has paid in full. Economic Crime Unit Chief J.D. Miller and Assistant State Attorney Michael Curley prosecuted the case.
