CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — A park eight years in the making is opening in Cape Coral on Friday.
A ribbon-cutting for Festival Park is scheduled for 9 a.m. The brand-new park is located in North Cape near Chiquita Blvd. and Kismet Parkway.

Festival Park has been in the works since voters approved the Parks Go Bond in 2018. The $17 million park features 10 multi-use sports fields and festival grounds for large community events.
The amphitheater is still to come, but electrical infrastructure is already in place. There's also a restroom and concessions building.
During hurricane season, the park can also serve as a storm shelter for Cape Coral neighbors.
