Two men arrested in separate incidents at vacant Cape Coral home

Cape Coral police arrested two men over the weekend after responding to separate 911 calls about break-ins at the same vacant home. On Saturday night, a neighbor called police to report a man entering the empty house, which had been vacated after an eviction. When officers arrived, they found Christopher Vargas reportedly hiding in the bathroom. Vargas claimed he was allowed to spend the night because he knew the previous owners and had been inside the house before, according to the report. He was arrested at the scene and faces a loitering charge. The following day, police received another call about the same home. This time, Aaron Bevins was accused of breaking in and attempting to take the keys to a van parked in the driveway. Bevins reportedly told officers the previous owner had given him permission to take the keys. He was also arrested and faces a burglary charge. Neighbor Marvin Jackson said he had seen Bevins at the home before. "I’ve seen him before hanging out with the people who used to live there. He was probably back buying more dope," Jackson said. Other neighbors expressed concern about the repeated police presence in the area. "Our neighbors are, you know, they're nice neighbors. Everybody seems to get along really well. I'm really kind of surprised this happened," said Chris Ericksen, a Cape Coral resident. Both Vargas and Bevins are being held at the Lee County Jail. Cape Coral police have not yet responded to inquiries about whether the residence has a history of 911 calls from neighbors.
