Cape Coral traffic stop takes wild turn after pickup truck crashes, K-9 tracks driver to backyard

A 19-year-old woman was arrested after Cape Coral police said she fled from officers during a traffic stop, crashed her pickup truck and ran into a yard before being tracked down by a K9. Victoria Da Silva Adriano faces charges including resisting an officer without violence, fleeing or eluding police, criminal mischief and driving with a suspended license, according to a Cape Coral Police Department probable cause statement. Police say this happened at 10:42 p.m. when an officer working in uniform saw a black pickup leave a gas station along Del Prado Boulevard South after its driver allegedly failed to stop before entering the roadway, according to the arrest report. The officer followed the truck and said it accelerated west on Southeast 10th Street before turning north onto Southeast 15th Avenue. Police said the driver turned off the truck's lights and ran a stop sign at Viscaya Parkway, nearly striking a police K-9 vehicle in the area. A K-9 officer then attempted another traffic stop, police said. The pickup slowed before running a red light at Del Prado Boulevard and Viscaya Parkway and continuing east. Officers discontinued the traffic stop after seeing the truck crash into a median. Police said officers later saw the pickup crash into a palm tree in the median near Bolado Parkway. The woman then ran from the vehicle, prompting officers to establish a perimeter and begin searching for her. A K-9 tracked the woman to the backyard of a home on Southeast 16th Place, according to the probable cause statement on page 3. Police said she was standing on an irrigation pipe and trying to climb over a fence when officers approached. The affidavit says the woman broke the pipe and damaged the fence as officers attempted to take her into custody. Police said officers brought her to the ground after she resisted their attempts to detain her. Police said Da Silva Adriano had a bloody lip that appeared consistent with an injury from the crash but did not report other injuries. A driver's license check showed her license had been suspended 14 times, according to the police report. In addition to the criminal charges, police records say Da Silva Adriano was cited for hit-and-run involving property damage, driving with a suspended license, fleeing and eluding, running a stop sign, running a red light, and failing to stop before entering a roadway.
