With soaring temperatures expected to increase electric bills, hundreds of Gulf Coast families are receiving help to stay cool and save money. Florida Power & Light (FPL) and the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida are providing summer safety kits to 200 income-qualified families. The kits include items such as rope caulk to seal air leaks, a refrigerator and freezer thermometer to keep appliances running smoothly, an LED nightlight, wool dryer balls, a smart power switch, and a whistle that alerts when an air-conditioning filter needs attention. FPL representatives are also sharing energy-saving tips and information about programs available to customers. Additionally, the Harry Chapin Food Bank is providing food during the event. The event is being held on Monday at the Stars Complex from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. All the items included in the kits are also available for purchase to help families keep their homes cool and reduce electric bills.
