Hit-and-run kills cyclist on SR 29 in Collier County, driver still missing

IMMOKALEE, Fla. (WINK)— The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclist on State Road 29.

On Aug. 17, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a man riding a bicycle was discovered on the grass shoulder of State Road 29, south of State Road 82. He was pronounced deceased on scene.

According to FHP, an unknown vehicle was traveling south on State Road 29, south of State Road 82. The bicyclist was riding south on the State Road 29 paved apron, south of State Road 82.

The vehicle collided with the bicyclist. After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene.

The vehicle is believed to have headlight damage. The specific date and time of the incident remain under investigation.

The identity of the bicyclist is pending positive identification. Corporal P. Kirk is investigating the case.
