SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) — Florida’s U.S. Senate race is set for November after both parties selected their nominees. Republican Sen. Ashley Moody and Democratic state Rep. Angie Nixon won their party nominations to compete for the remaining two years of Marco Rubio’s Senate term, according to the Associated Press.
Moody was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to fill Rubio’s Senate seat after Rubio left to become President Donald Trump’s secretary of state in 2025.
Moody previously served as Florida’s attorney general. She will face Nixon in November in the special election to complete the remainder of Rubio’s term.
Nixon defeated retired Army Lt. Col. Alex Vindman for the Democratic nomination.
Nixon will face Moody in November in the special election to fill the final two years of Rubio’s Senate term. If elected, Nixon would become Florida’s first Black U.S. senator, according to the AP.
