Cape Coral City Council is set to vote Wednesday on the Cape Compass 2035 strategic plan, a roadmap for the city’s growth and priorities over the next decade. The plan is designed to help city leaders determine where to focus their time, money, and resources in the years ahead. The city’s current strategic plan was approved in 2021, but council members have spent the last several months reworking those priorities. In May, council members agreed to narrow the city’s six top goals down to four: community health, safety, and quality of life; making city government high-performing; sustainable infrastructure; and thoughtful growth and a vibrant economy. Some initiatives are already in progress, such as attracting a second hospital to improve community health and safety. On Friday, the city and HCA announced plans to build a hospital on Southwest Pine Island Road. For sustainable infrastructure, the city aims to deliver reliable utility services and stormwater management, including the utilities extension project. The plan also calls for attracting quality businesses and employers to support thoughtful growth and a vibrant economy. Council members will be asked to officially approve the plan during Wednesday's meeting, which begins at 4:30 p.m. DOWNLOAD the free Gulf Coast News app for your latest news and alerts on breaking news, weather, sports, entertainment, and more on your phone or tablet.
