FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — For Wesley and Amber Flint, the love of vintage and antiques started as a hobby and grew into something much bigger.
What began in 2009 has turned into a family business built around finding forgotten treasures, giving old pieces new life and creating a place where shoppers can discover something with a story behind it.
That dream is now taking shape at Olde Florida Mercantile, the Flints’ brick-and-mortar shop in downtown Fort Myers.
Amber Flint recently opened the store on Jackson Street. Amber Flint said there's no other place quite like this. " Everything that we make and bring is different than anything down here. We go and pick everything from the store ourselves."
For Wesley and Amber Flint, the love of vintage and antiques started as a hobby and grew into something much bigger.
The shop brings together many of the things the couple has collected and created over the years, including vintage and antique pieces, home décor, gifts, handmade fragrances and unique treasures inspired by the past.
The Flints have traveled across the country searching for vintage and antique finds, always looking for pieces that stand out and have a story to tell. " I have always enjoyed taking old things and giving them a second life. That can mean repurposing a vintage find, transforming a forgotten piece into something new, or simply finding the right home for an object with history.
And while Amber handles much of the creative work, Wesley has an important role, too: loading, lifting and doing plenty of the driving during their treasure hunts.
Their business journey originally began as Honey’s House, where the couple created potpourri, room sprays and fragrance oils. The business eventually expanded into other products and became part of Honey & Co., LLC. They also participate in boutique-style vintage markets around the country.
Olde Florida Mercantile is the next chapter, "It's my first step towards growth. I want to eventually have a much larger store and continue sharing vintage finds with everyone," said Amber Flint.
The store combines the couple’s passion for collecting with their love of creating, offering shoppers a mix of vintage finds and new pieces influenced by earlier eras.
For the Flints, the appeal of vintage goes beyond simply decorating a home. "These pieces all have characters. Sometimes I wish they could talk to tell a story," said Amber Flint.
They believe old things deserve to be loved again and that the best treasures are the ones that make people stop, remember and wonder about the story behind them.
And in downtown Fort Myers, they now have a place to share those stories with the community.
