PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (WINK) — Port Charlotte High School was placed on lockdown this afternoon following a reported threat.
Charlotte County Fire & EMS responded to the school for a law enforcement investigation. Deputies are on scene and investigating the threat.
The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office received a threat regarding the campus that required an immediate investigation. The campus has been placed back on lockdown while deputies thoroughly investigate the situation.
All students and staff are safe inside their secure areas. Campus access is restricted to keep the area clear for law enforcement.
Units are staging in the area, according to Ashley Turner, public safety public information officer for Charlotte County. Parents are being asked not to come to campus at this time.
The school is working closely with the Sheriff's Office. No additional information is available at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
