The cost of attending college has reached six figures annually at 15 schools across the United States, with the University of Miami nearing that milestone. The University of Miami's estimated total cost is now about $99,000 a year. Nationwide, Harvey Mudd College tops the list at nearly $105,000, with Duke University and the University of Southern California also exceeding $100,000. Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology offer free tuition to families making less than $200,000 a year. Florida's public universities are much cheaper for in-state students, averaging about $6,300 a year in tuition and required fees. Florida Gulf Coast University is about $6,100, with the University of Florida, Florida State University, the University of South Florida, and the University of Central Florida in a similar range. The Bright Futures Scholarship Program can cover 75% or 100% of eligible tuition and fees for qualifying students.
