Hit-and-run driver caught after leaving bicyclist critically hurt in Arcadia, troopers say

ARCADIA, Fla. (WINK)— A bicyclist suffered critical injuries after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash early Thursday morning, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.

The crash happened at 12:36 a.m. at West Pine Street and Manatee Avenue in Arcadia. A Ford Aerostar traveling east on West Pine Street collided with a 29-year-old man riding his bicycle west on East Pine Street.

The impact separated the bicyclist from his bicycle, and he came to rest on West Pine Street. He was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.

FHP troopers located the suspected vehicle and driver a short time later at an apartment complex in Arcadia.

The Ford Aerostar has been impounded by FHP for forensic examination. Charges are pending additional investigation, according to the press release.
