A small plane that took off from Page Field in Fort Myers crashed in the Atlantic Ocean near the east coast of Florida, according to the Boca Raton Airport Authority and Boca Raton Police Department. The Airport Authority says that there was one person on board when the crash occurred, the pilot, and that they were rescued by Boca Raton Ocean Rescue. An emergency was declared enroute to the plane's destination, says the Airport Authority, and the plane was cleared to land at South Bimini Airport in the Bahamas before landing in the ocean near 250 South Ocean Boulevard. Boca Raton police say that while no injuries were reported, the pilot was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
