SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) — Trending drier than normal for a weekend in August, but keep in mind there are still isolated showers and storms in the forecast.
Saturday morning will start with temperatures in the upper 70s under a partly cloudy sky. A stray shower is possible in the morning, with isolated showers and storms (30% rain coverage) developing around midday. Most of these will shift east of I-75 by the late afternoon and evening. Afternoon high temperatures on Saturday will reach the lower to mid 90s..
Sunday will bring a very similar setup, with isolated showers and storms and high temperatures in the lower to mid 90s. With rain coverage only at 30% this weekend, some communities will end up with no rain at all.
The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring two areas of interest in the Atlantic. Neither poses any risk to the United States. Next week, the Weather Authority will be monitoring a tropical wave coming off the coast of Africa and beginning its journey across the Atlantic. This will be worth monitoring, but it also poses no current threat to Florida.
A non-tropical area of low pressure is developing along a front a few hundred miles north-northeast of the Azores. The system could separate from the front and take on some subtropical or tropical characteristics Saturday or early Sunday as it moves east-southeast at 10–15 mph toward Portugal and northwestern Spain.
Formation chance: 48 hours: 20% — Low | 7 days: 20% — Low
A weak area of low pressure a few hundred miles east-southeast of Bermuda is producing a concentrated area of showers and thunderstorms southeast of its center. Relatively high surface pressures should limit development, with any changes expected to occur slowly. The system is forecast to drift west-southwestward through Sunday before turning northward early next week.
Formation chance: 48 hours: 10% — Low | 7 days: 20% — Low
