Former U.S. Sen. Nancy Kassebaum Baker, the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate without following a spouse into office, died Friday at the age of 94. Her son said she died of natural causes. Kassebaum Baker was also the first woman to chair a major Senate committee on Capitol Hill. She married former Sen. Howard Baker, a Tennessee Republican and former Senate majority leader, who passed away in 2014.
