Clewiston ball fields vandalized, police ask public for help

CLEWISTON, Fla. (WINK)— The Clewiston Police Department is asking for the community's help in identifying those responsible for repeated vandalism at local ball fields and public restrooms.

According to a press release from the department, the facilities are being intentionally damaged through multiple incidents. Recent acts of vandalism include clay being thrown and smeared on building exteriors, damaging paint and surfaces.

Clay and sand have been placed into toilets, causing plumbing problems and damage. Excessive toilet paper has been used to intentionally clog toilets and flood the restrooms, and sinks, mirrors and other restroom fixtures have been damaged.

The press release states this is not harmless fun or a prank but intentional destruction of public property that costs taxpayers money to clean, repair and replace. Anyone identified committing these acts may face criminal charges, including criminal mischief, and may be arrested when permitted by law.

The department is asking parents, coaches, players, visitors and community members to help protect these facilities.
