Fort Myers Beach town leaders consider waivers for Roar Offshore event

Fort Myers Beach town leaders are reviewing requests to waive noise and open container ordinances for the Roar Offshore event, which is set to take place September 11-13. Event organizers are asking the town for additional permissions, including the use of several town properties such as Times Square, Beach Access 36, and local waterways. They are also requesting to rent 22 parking spaces at Beach Access 36 to stage additional boats. In Times Square, organizers plan to hold a boat show featuring five race teams and boats approximately 32 feet long. The race boats would be lowered into the water by crane at a temporary launch site near the Whale property. The requests still require final approval from town staff, the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District, and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The town says the application is pending resolution of a few items, including insurance. Town leaders said having this event back is a sign of the island's major recovery and an opportunity to showcase everything Fort Myers Beach has to offer. If the waivers are approved, the Roar Offshore event will take place from September 11 through September 13. The Fort Myers Beach Town Council meeting to discuss the matter is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday.
