FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Fort Myers Police arrested a 24-year-old man after he allegedly set fire to an occupied home Sunday night.
Officers responded to a residential fire in the 100 block of Williams Street. When they arrived, they learned someone had intentionally started a fire outside the home while people were inside.
The fire caused significant damage to the exterior of the residence and damaged several items, according to a press release from Fort Myers Police.
Police detained Mario Cabrera at the scene. During the investigation, Cabrera made statements taking responsibility for starting the fire, the release said.
Cabrera was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of first-degree arson.
