ICE conducts arrests, detainments throughout Lee County Monday morning

ICE agents conducted arrests and detainments across Lee County on Monday morning, causing significant traffic delays along I-75 and prompting reports from drivers about law enforcement activity. These arrests caused traffic delays throughout I-75, with drivers reporting seeing ICE agents and law enforcement vehicles at multiple locations. At North Shore Park in North Fort Myers, Florida Highway Patrol vehicles were seen after an eyewitness reported a car being swarmed and pulled over. “A little after 10, 10:30ish. About four vehicles, state troopers,” said Joe, a witness at the scene. “That’s a little unusual for a Monday morning. I don’t know what’s going on.” Drivers along I-75 described seeing ICE agents detaining individuals, including Robin, who witnessed activity between the Alico Road and Corkscrew Road exits. “Between Alico and Corkscrew exits, I saw at least five stops,” Robin said. “A combination of FHP pulling over what appeared to be work trucks, and the ICE vehicles were right there behind them.” Social media was filled with reports and photos of ICE activity from Cape Coral to Lehigh Acres. Hillary Hogue, with the organization Mothers Helping Mothers, also witnessed the arrests. “Border Patrol was on the streets today. ICE, Lee County Police Department, and FMPD as well. And they’re all ICE because they’re all working with ICE and also Highway Patrol,” Hogue said. In a statement, ICE said, “Every day, DHS is conducting law enforcement activities across the country to keep Americans safe. DHS does not discuss ongoing or future operations.” The agency also released photos of three men they said were arrested in Fort Myers. Gulf Coast News confirmed that all three individuals are currently in ICE custody, though the agency did not disclose when the arrests occurred.
