Cape Coral police help trap roaming gators as Florida nears the end of mating season

Florida is on the tail end of the gator mating season, and with that comes an increase in sightings across our Gulf Coast. The Cape Coral Police Department has had a few calls recently, including calls about two gators, one of which was captured on Burnt Store Road near Diplomat Parkway and another on NW 18th Street near NW 10th Place. CCPD said the gators were removed and relocated by an authorized trapper. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the American alligator mating season begins with courtship in early April, followed by mating in May or June, then nesting in late June or early July, followed by incubation for 60-65 days, and finally hatching occurs in late August or early September. FWC said to never feed an alligator and keep your distance if you see one. If you're concerned about an alligator, call its toll-free nuisance alligator hotline at 866-392-4286 and contracted nuisance alligator trappers will respond to help resolve the situation.
