Malnourished golden retriever dies, leading to owner's animal cruelty arrest in Charlotte County

A Charlotte County man was arrested on Sunday after being accused of abandoning his golden retriever, causing it to become malnourished and die. According to Charlotte County Animal Control's request for an arrest warrant, Graham, a male golden retriever, was observed in poor physical condition. Upon animal control's first contact with Graham, they reported the dog was severely underweight and displayed physical characteristics consistent with neglect and inadequate care. Animal Control noted that Graham had pale to yellow gums, nasal discharge, pronounced muscle wasting, and a Body Condition Score of 1/9. Graham was taken from the owner's home and brought to an animal clinic for treatment, where it was discovered that he had an unknown object blocking his intestines. Graham was taken for emergency surgery, but died shortly after. Animal Control then issued a request for an arrest warrant for Graham's owner, identified as Jayden Anglade, 23, according to court records. On Sunday, at around 11:09 p.m., a Charlotte County deputy made contact with Anglade and placed him under arrest. Anglade faces a charge of abandonment of animals and torture/inflicting serious physical injury causing death to an animal.
