'A Day for Dolly' comes to Glades County Schools on Friday, honoring Dolly Parton's life and legacy

The Glades County School District will host a Dolly Parton appreciation day on Friday, honoring the legacy of kindness and literacy that she left behind. The country music superstar died on Tuesday at the age of 80 following a brief battle with cancer, Parton's publicist confirmed. In honor of Parton, Glades County schools will host "Coat of Many Colors: A Day for Dolly" on Friday, August 28. As part of the celebration, students and staff are encouraged to wear bright colors or country attire. Additionally, at a designated time, all students and staff will stop what they are doing and read for 20 minutes. The reading time is a tribute to Parton's Imagination Library, which mails free books to children from birth until they begin school. Community members, parents, school board members, local leaders, and staff are invited to visit classrooms and read to students. Students will also write their dreams on a butterfly, star, or heart and display them at their school in order to remind everyone that anything is possible, the school district said.
