Arrest made in case of missing 19-year-old found dead following hit-and-run in Collier County

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol announced on Wednesday that they arrested someone in connection to the case of a missing 19-year-old who was found dead after a hit-and-run crash in Collier County. According to FHP, a deceased bicyclist was discovered in the grass shoulder of State Road 29, south of State Road 82 on August 17. The bicyclist was later identified as 19-year-old Landin Ahrens. Troopers began searching for a Dodge pickup truck with busted headlights. On Tuesday, troopers say they located the suspected vehicle, a 2014 Dodge pickup truck, in a residential community in Estero. FHP also determined that the physical damage to the Dodge was consistent with the hit-and-run crash. Both headlamps had been replaced post collision. The suspected hit-and-run driver, identified as Pedro Lopez Fernando, 42, of Immokalee, was arrested. Lopez Fernando faces charges of leaving the scene of a traffic crash involving death and tampering with evidence. Lopez Fernando was booked into the Collier County Jail, and the investigation remains ongoing.
