Bodycam shows Port Charlotte High School teacher's arrest for alleged sexual activity with student

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office released bodycam footage from the April arrest of a Port Charlotte High School teacher who is accused of engaging in sexual activities with one of her students while on campus. In the video, the 17-year-old student was heard stating that he was engaging in sexual activity with a teacher. According to the arrest affidavit, Heather Mashburn-Smith, 37, had unprotected sex with the boy twice in the classroom. CCSO said Mashburn-Smith told deputies that she wanted to marry him once he turned 18. According to the affidavit, Mashburn-Smith told him that she was not in a good marriage and wanted to leave her husband for him. The victim reportedly blocked her, but she continued to contact him on Snapchat, the affidavit said. Mashburn-Smith allegedly told deputies that she had "made a mistake" and that she felt remorseful because she was married, according to the affidavit. She is facing charges of unlawful sexual activity with certain minors.
