COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — A 42-year-old Immokalee man was arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 19-year-old bicyclist from Lehigh Acres, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The bicyclist's body was discovered on Aug. 17 on State Road 29, south of State Road 82 in Collier County.
The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit said the fatal hit-and-run traffic crash actually occurred on Aug. 14 at around 8:40 p.m. on State Road 29, south of State Road 82, in Collier County.
On Tuesday, state troopers located a Dodge pickup truck in a residential community in Estero. Upon further inspection, state troopers said the physical damage to the Dodge was consistent with the hit-and-run crash. State troopers determined both headlamps had been replaced after the collision.
The Dodge was then impounded for further forensic examination.
State troopers subsequently arrested the alleged hit-and-run driver, Pedro Fernando of Immokalee, for leaving the scene of a traffic crash involving death and tampering with evidence. Fernando was booked into the Collier County Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
