Residents on Northwest 16th Terrace in Cape Coral are voicing frustration after the U.S. Postal Service halted mail delivery to their homes, citing safety concerns. “UPS does, FedEx does. Waste Pro does. Everybody except the post office. And it’s ridiculous. There’s no reason for it at all,” said Thomas Miller, a Cape Coral resident. Thomas Miller, a disabled veteran, said the disruption has left him unable to receive critical items. “I get my medications, all my medical things from the VA through the mail, and they just cut us right off,” Miller said. His wife, Sheila Miller, said they were not informed about the reason for the stoppage. “When you go on, and you put mail in your mailbox with the flag up, thinking it’s going to be picked up, and after two days, nothing, you realize there’s a problem,” Sheila Miller said. The Millers reached out to Gulf Coast News for help, and the U.S. Postal Service provided a statement explaining the situation. "The Postal Service always strives to provide the best possible service; however, the safety of our employees and customers is our priority. Regarding mail service at the specific location, there are some pending safety issues which have temporarily affected mail delivery to a few of the residents on this route and local management is currently aware of it. In the interim, all mail and packages for affected customers will be available for pickup at the Cape Coral North Branch located at 1441 SW 4th ST, Cape Coral, FL 33991, Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience this unexpected situation may have caused and appreciate their patience.” The Millers live near the Johnsons, a family whose home has been the subject of previous reports due to the road dipping. The city has placed barricades near the Johnsons’ home because of the issue. However, the Millers said they live far from the affected area and feel it is unfair that their mail service has been impacted.
