Overturned boat off Marco Island triggers emergency response, no victims reported

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — A capsized boat spotted about 10 miles off the coast of Marco Island triggered a multi-agency water rescue response. 

An aircraft returning to Naples Airport spotted the vessel and contacted 911 after the crew saw what appeared to be a person on or near the boat, authorities say. 

The Marco Island Police Department Marine Unit was already on the water and responded immediately, along with the Marco Island Fire Rescue boat, Greater Naples Fire Rescue fire boat and Collier County Sheriff's Office marine assets.

When crews arrived, they found the vessel was abandoned and that no emergency had taken place.

No one was found in distress.
