SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) —Rain coverage will steadily increase as we close out the work week and head into the weekend.
Thursday morning will start with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s under partly cloudy skies. A few showers are possible throughout the morning, especially along the coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop throughout the afternoon and evening, with 50% rain coverage. High temperatures will reach the lower 90s.
Rain coverage will increase to 60% on Friday and stay at that level through the weekend. Rain coverage will favor the coast and inland spots more equally as we head into the weekend, rather than being mainly inland as it has been during the first half of this week.
The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring one area of interest in the Atlantic.
Eastern Tropical Atlantic (AL96): An area of low pressure associated with a tropical wave is located a few hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Showers and thunderstorms associated with this system have changed little in organization over the past several hours.
Environmental conditions are somewhat favorable for development over the next couple of days, and a tropical depression could form over the next day or two as the system moves westward to west-northwestward near 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.
Environmental conditions are forecast to become less conducive by this weekend, potentially ending its chances for development.
