SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) — Isolated showers and storms will initially impact our coastal communities this morning, as temperatures start off in the 70s. Mid to late morning, those showers and storms will work their way toward US-41. Isolated to scattered storms are expected closer to I-75 around lunch then shift inland.
Winds initially out of the southeast in the morning will become southwesterly this afternoon, helping steer those storms east of I-75 as we head into the afternoon and evening. There's enough moisture in the air that any storm could dump heavy rain quickly, similar to what we saw yesterday.
High temperatures are expected in the lower 90s with feels like temperatures around 100°.
A wind shift will change our storm timing, and that could mean more impact to weekend plans. With winds coming from the east, our mornings will feature a mainly dry, mostly sunny sky. But, heading into the afternoon and evening, stay weather aware as storms develop and linger through the evening closer to I-75 and the coast.
A similar weather pattern will kick off September and linger through midweek.
There's a disorganized storm system in the Atlantic (west of Cabo Verde Islands) that's getting better organized. It could become a short-lived tropical depression or storm later today, but conditions turn unfavorable by Friday, which should quickly end its development.
Chance of formation: 70% (high) in both the next 2 days and next 7 days, but even if it forms, it likely won't last long.
