LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (WINK) — A Lehigh Acres neighborhood is waking up on Friday with an unsettling feeling as a death investigation is underway just doors down from them.
WINK News brought this story to viewers first on Thursday morning, as the team watched investigators at the scene for hours. One man told WINK News that law enforcement called him with the news that his sister had been found dead in her home.
The investigation unfolded in the 2900 block of Haviland Avenue in Lehigh Acres, just off State Road 82. WINK News reporter Haley Jacobs was the first reporter on scene yesterday.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office has only confirmed its major crimes unit is investigating a death inside the home. The sheriff's office has not released information about how the woman died or if anyone is responsible for her death.
Yellow tape, the mobile command center, the major crimes unit, and deputies surrounded the home from morning into the night yesterday as investigators carried equipment in and out.
Family members told WINK News the victim is Amadette Longin and described her as a loving mom, sister and aunt who was very close with her family.
Her niece said the family spent much of yesterday outside the home, waiting to learn what happened.
"We just want everything to go quicker. We want to make sure that this process is smooth, and we just want to mourn her," Lutiana Longin, the victim's niece, said.
The sheriff's office says the investigation is still in its early stages, and it has released all the information it can without compromising the investigation.
