LCSO conducting death investigation in Lehigh Acres

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (WINK) — A family is waiting for answers after a woman was found dead at a home in Lehigh Acres.

WINK News crews have been at the scene for hours, watching the Lee County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit collect evidence at a home on Haviland Avenue near 30th Street Southwest, close to the line between Lehigh Acres and Gateway.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office taped off the home early in the morning. Hours later, the Major Crimes Unit was still going in and out, appearing to collect evidence. Deputies also brought a mobile command unit to the scene.

WINK News spoke with the family of the woman who died, who identified her as Amadette Longin.

Longin's niece described her as an amazing woman who was very family-oriented and very loving.

"She loved us all…like we'd be with her all the time," said Lutiana Longin.

The family is still waiting to learn what happened. Relatives say they hope the investigation runs smoothly as they try to mourn.

Longin said her aunt, Amadette, was a woman of love who put family at the center of everything.

"We'd eat with her. She'd take us to the pool. Like she just really loved us a lot. She loved all her nieces, nephews, grandkids. We loved us all," Longin said.

The home that brought family together became the home where they mourned. Neighbors watched as the mobile command center set up outside the residence.

"When I would normally pass by, like they look like a normal family, you know, and so it's very shocking to see that happen in my street," said Adali Dominguez.

Dominguez and other neighbors remained on edge as the investigation stretched from the afternoon into the night. Robert Kennedy, a Lehigh Acres resident, observed the heavy law enforcement presence.

"Every cop in Fort Myers here right now…" Kennedy said.

The Sheriff's Office released limited information, only confirming the Major Crimes Unit was investigating a death. For more than 12 hours, detectives kept the house taped off as they worked the scene.

"Everyone's crying, everyone's hurt. It's only day one," Longin said. "It's just really a hard thing to go through, especially this if the first time anything like this has really happened to our family."

The Sheriff's Office said more information would be released Friday.
