Lehigh Acres couple guilty in suicide pact involving their son with special needs: Judge

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (WINK)—A Lehigh Acres couple was found guilty of forming a suicide pact that involved their son with special needs.

Barbara and Neil Bates were arrested in November after Barbara called 911. Lee County deputies found the two of them and their son in serious need of medical attention.

All three had taken sleeping pills. The couple later planned to use a box cutter on themselves.

Barbara was sentenced to 14 years followed by 10 years of probation. Neil was sentenced to 12 years followed by five years of probation.
