Man accused of killing 1 woman, strangling another at Lehigh Acres home makes first appearance

The man accused of killing a woman at a duplex on Haviland Avenue South in Lehigh Acres and strangling another made his first appearance in court on Saturday morning. Whycliff Longin, 28, appeared virtually before a judge. He was in need of a Creole interpreter. During court proceedings Longin waived the reading of his charges. Judge Andrew Marcus found probable cause for all four charges, which are listed as: Homicide Attempted homicide Sexual battery Burglary with a battery The state filed a motion to keep Longin in jail before his trial. On Thursday morning deputies with the Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to the duplex on Haviland Avenue South in reference to a domestic disturbance. Deputies say that a woman awoke to Longin strangling her in her bed. She said that she managed to barricade herself in a bathroom and called 911. Longin was detained after escaping to the neighboring duplex, where deputies later found another woman, dead, in the home. Her family identified her as Amadette Longin. LCSO says that Whycliff Longin is an immigrant from Haiti who is seeking asylum, and that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold has been put on him. During proceedings, the court also acknowledged a filing involving Whycliff Longin's constitutional rights, which would be explained at a future date.
