LABELLE, Fla. (WINK)—A major intersection in Hendry County was shut down Saturday due to a large police presence.
The Hendry County Sheriff's Office asked drivers to avoid the area of State Road 29 and Case Road and use alternate routes. The sheriff's office initially did not release details on what caused the closure or how long it would remain in place.
In a later release titled "Officer Involved Shooting," the Hendry County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at about 5:25 p.m. Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the area of Case Road and State Road 29 south of LaBelle after receiving a report of a reckless driver.
A short time later, deputies reported that shots had been fired. The suspect was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained.
Law enforcement officers were not injured. The scene has been turned over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for investigation.
