Driver accused of topping 85 mph in a 35 mph zone in Punta Gorda

A Punta Gorda man was arrested on Sunday after being accused of driving more than 50 mph over the speed limit with a suspended license. According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was conducting traffic patrol in the area of Booth Street in Punta Gorda when they located a car traveling 86 mph in a 35 mph zone. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the car in the area of Nesbit Street and West Marion Avenue, the CCSO arrest report said. The deputy made contact with the driver, who was identified as Joseph Boisvert. Boisvert told the deputy he did not know how fast he was going. As the deputy attempted to collect Boisvert's driver's license, the deputy asked Boisvert to roll his window down further, to which Boisvert replied that he "doesn't do that," the report said. Additional deputies responded to the scene as backup and discovered that Boisvert was driving with a suspended driver's license. Boisvert was arrested and faces charges of super speeding, driving with a suspended license, and possession of a suspended license.
