Lee County man accused of stealing child's fishing pole, shaking child

An Iona man was arrested on Sunday after being accused of grabbing and shaking a child who was fishing, before stealing the child's fishing pole. According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies responded to reports of a robbery at around 9:19 a.m. The victim, a child, told deputies that he was fishing with a friend along a bank when an unknown man approached them. The victim said the man, later identified as Gregory Schweibold, 66, told the child that he and his wife had a bet on whether or not the child was a girl or a boy, the report said. The victim and Schweibold exchanged more words until Schweibold grabbed the child and began shaking him. The child said he attempted to run away, but Schweibold grabbed hold of his fishing pole. The victim said he felt as though he and Schweibold were in a tug-of-war for the pole, the report said. The victim said he decided the fight for the fishing pole wasn't worth it and let the pole go. Schweibold then chased after the victim's friend, the report said. The friend also dropped their fishing pole in an attempt to get away. Schweibold was arrested and faces charges of robbery by sudden snatching and child abuse without great bodily harm.
