HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — The Hendry County Sheriff's Office will hold a press conference on Tuesday afternoon about a deadly deputy-involved shooting that occurred on Saturday.
The press conference could shed more light on what led up to the shooting. 33-year-old Edward Young Jr. died from his injuries after the Saturday shooting on State Road 29.
Friends of Young told WINK News they're still struggling to understand what happened. They described Young as kind, respectful and driven.
"Never been an aggressive type of person at all. So just kinda threw me for a loop," a friend said. "I called one of my good friends to kind of confirm it, and my worst nightmare came true."
"In the Black community, I just feel like we just don't get the proper respect as any other community. So I just really want them to dig deep into it," the friend said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the use of deadly force at the sheriff's office's request.
WINK News will provide updates on the press conference on air, on winknews.com and on the WINK News app.
