More than a mile of the Veterans Parkway pathway in Cape Coral will be repaired and resurfaced this fall under a Lee County project. The Lee Board of County Commissioners approved the project on Tuesday for segments of the Veterans Parkway bicycle and pedestrian pathway from the intersection with Pine Island Road to the east of Santa Barbara Boulevard. According to the Lee County Government, inspections identified sections of the pathway that needed repair, as tree roots and grass have intruded in some areas, and drop-offs have formed at the edge of the pavement, with cracking and buckling present in other areas as well. County officials said the project will mill and resurface the pathway, and sod will be added in some areas. The county awarded Ajax Paving Industries of Florida LLC a contract for about $250,000 to complete the project. Work is expected to begin by the end of September and is expected to be completed later this fall.
