Cape Coral mayor to take time off for surgery, plans to try to attend city council virtually

Cape Coral Mayor John Gunter said on Wednesday during the city council meeting that he is sick and will need to have surgery. According to the mayor, he was diagnosed months ago and the surgery is scheduled for Sept. 16. Gunter said he will be out for four weeks for recovery and the surgery will require months of rehab, but he plans to try to attend city council meetings virtually.
